Solar energy can come in the form of passive energy, for heat generation, or active
energy, for generation of electricity from the sun. Photovoltaics (PV), generate
electricity from the sun. Integrating this technology into roofing products allows
the homeowner to offset their electric bill, and relieves the utility of supply needs
during peak demand hours. Solar cells perform the best when energy is needed most.
DC energy created on the roof is inverted to AC energy and fed into the electric
grid or stored in batteries. The vast majority of residential solar roof tops are
hooked into the grid in order to obtain federal and/or state rebates that help offset
initial capital costs. |
